RowFi

A cosy rowing game for the Concept2 RowErg.

Row on your own erg, and a single sculler rows your session on a painted copy of the Watersportbaan in Ghent, a real 2 km rowing course. The light is warm, lo-fi music plays, and ducks and cyclists go about their day along the banks.

A calm place to put in the kilometres, not a race.

The video plays from YouTube once you press play. Until then, nothing on this page loads from Google.

What it does

Rows with your erg

RowFi reads your PM5 over Bluetooth, stroke by stroke: distance, time, pace, rate, heart rate. The PM5's numbers are the truth. The boat sits exactly at the PM5's distance.

A rower that rows like you

The sculler's catch, drive, finish and recovery follow your own strokes, at your rate. The boat surges and checks, the blades leave puddles, the hull leaves a wake.

The real course

The Watersportbaan is built from OpenStreetMap, a metre to a metre: the lanes, the buoys, the bridges, the clubs. Out from GRS's landing stage, down in lane 6, round the turn, back up in lane 1.

Training, not racing

Start rowing and the clock starts. Stop, and the session pauses by itself; your rower has a drink. Ghost rowers in the next lane hold paces round your UT2, to catch or be caught by.

Moods and music

Sunrise, sunny, cloudy or rain, each with its own light and its own lo-fi. Four views: chase, alongside, bow and drone.

Saved to your Logbook

Every session goes to your own Concept2 Logbook. No RowFi account: your Logbook is your account.

Where it is now

RowFi is in development, by one person. It is playable on an Android tablet next to the erg, and on a Windows desktop. It isn't out yet: follow the blog (or its feed) to hear when it is.
